Jeremiah 6:10 “To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.”

Have you ever known the frustration of trying to tell a child, spouse, or co-worker something important, only to fail to get through to that person for some reason? It can be frustrating! Parents often know this quandary of trying to tell their child something but just not getting through to them. Sometimes husbands and wives can be in the same boat. Now, I won’t ask for any examples from the audience!

As a young boy, my pal and I were on horseback riding across one of the pastures here on the Ranch. We had no sooner left the corral when my friend tried to get my attention because his saddle was loose. “Oh, don’t worry about it,” I flippantly answered. I didn’t want to stop and wait for something so simple; I had a horse to ride! Well, he kept pestering me about it and I kept putting him off. “We’ll get it in just a minute. Let’s just ride a little bit longer.” Well, we made it almost all the way back into the corral before I noticed my buddy covered in dirt and his saddle under his horse!

My friend had been telling me for nearly an hour than his saddle was loose, but I wouldn’t listen. In Jeremiah, God had a heart for His people that was only good. However, He could not reward their disobedience and rebellion.

Help comes by hearing. For every hurt and problem that you might face today, God has an answer. But if you don’t hear the answer, you will never get the help you need! For the person with no heart to hear, there is no ability to receive help. Sometimes the word that is most healing in your life is the word you least want to hear.

You will not be able to hear if you are distracted or you are not listening. That is why hearing preaching and reading God’s Word is vitally important! More than anything, we need to know God’s mind on each matter that concerns us. God’s Word is objective, authoritative, and sufficient for every need you have. The question is, will you listen to it?
