I Kings 3:9 “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy peo-ple, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?”

Got Wisdom?

If you had three wishes, and you could have anything that your wicked little heart desired, what would your first wish be? Well, getting your first wish granted sounds like fiction out of a children’s book, but it actually happened to Solomon! He didn’t get a wish from a genie in a bottle; he got his wish from God Almighty.

Solomon asked for “an understanding heart to judge [God’s] people, that I may discern between good and bad.” He could have asked for anything he wanted, yet he asked for wisdom. Asking for wisdom is a wise decision! You need a little wisdom to ask for wisdom.

Sometimes we are discouraged because we feel “dumb.” Be encouraged! If you are wise enough to know that you are not wise enough, you are in a good place. The most dangerous person is the one who doesn’t know his need.

The truth is, what you wish to be is an indication of who you are already. For example, if a greedy man is given three wishes, what will be his first wish? More money. What he wants (more money) indicates what he already is (greedy). The opposite is true as well. That is why I want to encourage you to ask for wisdom!

James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” The only person who asks God for wisdom is the person wise enough to know that he lacks wisdom! Lacking wisdom but never asking for it is not smart, so ask for wisdom!

All the power, prestige, money, and ability in the world without wisdom will not do you or anyone any good. Wisdom is doing what God would. Do you think you need wisdom for today’s decisions, drama, and difficulties? If you do, ask God!

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7)
