Joshua 15:14 “And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.”
A “Can-Do” Attitude
Have you ever had a day when you felt completely slogged? When people at the office tell me to go home and take a nap, I know I am over my head! Everything important seems to have the same deadline, and I can’t help but think, “Why didn’t I do this earlier?!” Well, you can’t go back in time, but you can be resolved about your focus today.
I love Caleb’s “can-do” spirit in Joshua 15. He had a “can-do” attitude because he believed that God could do it. He was in earnest about taking the land that God had promised to him! In fact, he offered his daughter as a bride to any man who would conquer Kirjath-sepher. His daughter must have been quite something! The point is, Caleb was serious about acting on a promise that God had already given.
Contrast Caleb with the children of Judah. Verse 63 says, “As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.” I don’t know if they were unmotivated or decided to leave off conquering until later, but it never happened! The same scenario happened to the Ephraimites (Joshua 16:10).
How tragic to put off obeying what God had said and to not face up to the day’s obligations! Tomorrow is not guaranteed, and nothing worth doing today is worth putting off until tomorrow. Those with a “can-do” attitude have more to conquer and less to fight in the long run.
Remember that issues ignored today remain for tomorrow, and issues ignored today will grow tomorrow. Take a “can-do” spirit with you today and trust what God has said!
