I Kings 14:6 “And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.”

Hear or Hide?

Have you ever tried to “enhance” your résumé or accomplishments? Those who can’t enhance it might try to hide it! That is exactly what a king tried to do when he needed God’s help. Jeroboam thought his problem was the health of his son; God knew Jeroboam’s problem was the health of his soul. Jeroboam had his wife disguise herself when she went to visit the prophet Ahijah. Well, Ahijah couldn’t see very well (verse 4), so the disguise wasn’t really needed! A prophet without eyes was going to help a king without sight, but God could see everything perfectly.

Jeroboam didn’t want to hear what he needed to hear. He tried to hide reality from the prophet and from God, but does that make any sense to hide from the God of the Universe? The same is true with us. God sees right through to our core, so no amount of enhancing or manipulating will get past Him.

God perfectly and completely knows you as you are, and He tells it like it is. You can either hear or you can hide what God is saying to you today. God knows you and loves you enough to tell you what you need to hear. Don’t disguise it or hide from it!
