I Samuel 30:22 “Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered. . . .”

Is It Fair?

Kids have an innate sense of what is fair. At the same time, kids do not have a sense of sharing. They know when it’s not fair, but they don’t know when to share! You would think that we would grow out of it, but we never do! You are the exact same way now as you were when you were fighting over popsicles and toys!

While David and his men pursued the Amalekites to recover their families and their “stuff” from Ziklag, two hundred of the men are so weary and wiped out that they cannot continue. These two hundred men weren’t being lazy—they were warriors now chasing the enemy who took their wives and children! They must have been entirely and utterly exhausted.

Well, when the other four hundred men defeated the Amalekites and recovered everyone and everything, they were a little sore about the two hundred. “Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil.” It was not fair! They did not want to share! Does this sound familiar? Have you felt this way?

David gave a perfect rebuttal to these men. He said, “Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us. . . .” They didn’t take the spoil; God had given it to them. They didn’t do this in their own strength; God gave them His strength. God did it all and gave it all!

Don’t be stingy with others when God has been generous with you. This truth is not an alibi for laziness or communism; it is an alibi for teamwork. Remember Who gave you what you have. Whether it is your money, your time, or your abilities, it all comes from a generous God. Don’t be stingy when He has been generous!
