Psalm 139:1 “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.”

What attribute do you think of when you think about God? He is omnipresent (all-present), omniscient (all-knowing), and omnipotent (all-powerful). Are those attributes separate from one another? Can you have one attribute without the other? For example, could God be all-powerful if He did not know everything? On a personal level, God’s omnipotence wouldn’t be comforting to me if He did not know my problem.

God does not just know all things; He knows all people and all things about all people. God knows me! Not many people really know me, but God does. I love and appreciate my wife now more than I ever have, mainly because she knows me better than anyone else and likes me anyway! But God knows me better than my wife or anyone else does. He knows everything I do and think (verse 2); He knows my ways and words (3-4); He sees everything, no matter the place or time (7-12); and He knows me in the womb and in the grave (13-16). God knows me better than I know me!

When I ask God to lead me, I am asking a God who knows everything, can do everything, and can be every place. He can be omnipotent for me (wherever I am today) and omnipotent for you, too (wherever you are). He is not stretched or hindered in any way! That is why we can and should ask Him for what we need every day. God knows me–and God knows you.

“O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. . . . Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.”
