Genesis 33:11  “Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.  And he urged him, and he took it.”

Have you ever watched a child who is just learning to walk?  What does the child do with his hands? His hands are always out and clutching for anything!  Ironically, most people go through their lives the same way-always clutching.  Their entire existence is wrapped up in what they can grab.  Jacob was also such a man.

However, in Genesis 33, we see a transition from Jacob’s scheming to God’s grace.  To trust God instead of one’s own scheming was and is a daily decision.  Like Jacob, you have a choice this morning to either live and progress by God’s grace or live and progress by your grabbing. Both will give you progress but not in the same direction!

When Esau asked him, “Who are those with thee?”, Jacob’s response emphasized what God had graced him with, not what he had grabbed.  Your entire perspective on life would change if, instead of seeing everything you have as “mine,” you see everything you have or don’t have as a gift from God. How liberating that is!  Jacob went from always grabbing to saying, “God hath dealt graciously with me, and . . . I have enough.”

Are you progressing in your life by grabbing or by trusting God’s grace?  You can do it either way, but you are not going in the right direction if you live by grabbing.  Anything Jacob had to give to Esau was graciously given to him by God, and that was enough.  Is that how you view your possessions?  Is it all about what you’ve grabbed, or is it about what God has graced you with?

God’s grace is sufficient-it is enough!  His grace is enough for today, for tomorrow, and for whatever you need.  The question is, will you live by grabbing or by trusting God’s grace?
