Job 29:2 “Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;”

Remember the good old days? For some, the good old days were not so good, but they sure are old! Think about how a grandparent’s view of the good old days differs from a ten-year-old’s view. That’s a pretty big difference, isn’t it? Five years ago is the good old days to someone with only ten years of experience!

If you live your life in the good old days, you will wish your life away. Haven’t we all seen someone who tries too hard to be ten years younger than they actually are? The real danger comes with looking too far ahead or too far behind because you lose sight of today. “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) You cannot live in the past, and you cannot live in the future; you can only live in today. So live it! Don’t ruin today by worrying about tomorrow or wishing for yesterday.

With that being said, it is good, right, and acceptable to thank God for the past. If we are not careful, we can become ungrateful and full of selfish pride about the good old days. Don’t forget to thank the Lord for what He has done! It’s not a bad idea to pause this morning and thank God for yesterday.

After you thank God for the past, trust Him for the future. If you cannot change tomorrow, it is only fitting that you trust the One who holds tomorrow! He is trustworthy and He cares. You can do no better than trusting God with tomorrow. Live in today, thank God for yesterday, and trust Him for tomorrow!
