Psalm 3:4 “I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.”

There are few things in the world more frustrating than not being heard! Have you ever poured your thoughts out to someone, only to find out they didn’t hear a word? It is frustrating to not be heard; it is likewise gratifying to be heard and understood. The book of Psalms is full of references to God hearing a prayer, and the first few psalms paint a wonderful picture of God’s faithfulness to hear our prayers. Consider these several examples:

“I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me. . . .” (3:4)

“Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness. . . .” (4:1)

“Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.” (5:1)

“Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God. . . .” (5:2)

“. . . the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.” (6:8b)

“The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.” (6:9)

These verses stress the importance of God hearing your prayers. If God does not hear, you are wasting your breath! If gaining God’s ear is not your goal, your prayer is not worth much. You can have the peace and rest the psalmist mentions in Psalm 3-4 when what is weighing down your heart and mind is transferred to God.

Can you say with the psalmist, “I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me”? You can’t do better than Someone who hears and cares! God hears in the morning and at night; He hears in distress and in rest. Nothing is more frustrating than not being heard. Thank God that He hears!
