Acts 4:7 “And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?”

Not only is it important to live up to your potential and to God’s plan for your life, it is also important to live up to your opportunities. Peter was a man who saw opportunities where most of us would have only seen problems. Living up to your opportunities will separate you from the status quo.

A wise person realizes that his potential is defined by God. Because that is the case, you will never have an opportunity that is beyond God’s care or control. Do you see problems, or do you see opportunities? Consider Peter again. Pentecost had just occurred, and Peter and John had healed a lame man at the temple. What became of all of this? They were arrested, imprisoned, and brought before the high priest to answer for their actions. What seemed like a problem was merely an opportunity to preach to the leaders of his day!

Peter saw potential where others saw problems, and he seized the opportunities that were available to him. A wise person seizes more opportunities than he finds. Many Christians are hoping that “opportunity will knock”; a wise Believer will go to opportunity’s house and ring the doorbell!

Everything that came up in Peter’s life he saw as an opportunity. Confronting smart, powerful, and antagonistic men would not rank high on my list of easy things to do, but by God’s Spirit, Peter lived up to his opportunities. He had the proper perspective and the proper priorities in life. His priority was the Gospel, and when you consider that every opportunity is designed and controlled by God, you can have the same power and confidence that Peter had in Acts 4. He seized upon this opportunity to share the Gospel; what opportunities will you have today?
