Galatians 5:16 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
Who’s Driving?
On a recent trip to the Carolinas, Sena and I were meeting up with family members at a local park. As we pulled in behind their minivan and followed them through the parking area, I noticed that the van was weaving back and forth. I could see the driver’s face reflecting in the mirror, and all I could see was a big, cheesy grin! We were barely moving along, but that minivan was obviously under the influence of something. Well, as it turned out, that influence was my five-year-old niece!
Just like I could tell that van was under the influence of something by the way it was tracking, you can tell who or what is steering your life by looking at the track of your life. Whose hands are “steering” your life? Who is calling the shots? Galatians 5 describes the epic battle between the flesh and the Spirit. If God’s Spirit is driving my life, then I will do what I should!
The only things my flesh can do are selfish, fleshly things. Only God’s Spirit can do what He would do. I don’t naturally, in my flesh, love people like I ought. I don’t naturally, in my flesh, bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Only God’s Spirit with His hands on the wheel of my life can do that!
Does love describe your life? Does joy describe your life? How about peace? Longsuffering? Gentleness? Goodness? Faith? Meekness? Temperance? If not, take a look at who has their hands on the wheel!
