Psalm 86: 8 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.

All That He Is

We describe most things in this world in relative terms. We say that something is cheaper than something else, or that something is better than something else. We describe most things in terms of how they relate or compare to other things. That is why it is so hard to describe God. God is not like anyone or anything else in the entire universe. God is singular. He is a God of superlatives. God is absolute. God is not “relatively anything”! We don’t speak of the “More High God.” We speak of the “Most High God.”

God Himself has said, “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.” He is beyond description. That is why in Psalm 86 you find words like, “none,” “any,” “all,” and “alone.” All of them speak to the singular nature of the One God.

Psalm 86:8 says, “Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.” There is no one and no thing that can do what God can do because there is no one like our God.

Verse 9 continues by saying, “All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.” God is a God of all nations. He created all of the universe.

Verse 10 says, “For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.” God’s greatness is in contrast to the psalmist who said of himself, “I am poor and needy.” For this reason the psalmist cried unto God every day.

God is singular. He alone is unlike anyone or anything else. Does this realization characterize your relationship with Him? In other words, does your devotion to God reflect the singular, powerful, and wonderful nature of God? We receive all that God provides when we perceive Him for all that He is. He is “none,” “any,” “all,” and “alone.” All these words speak to the One God Who knows us, provides for us, and alone deserves our worship.
