Revelation 22:21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

We live in an imperfect world, and because we do there is a constant effort to edit or to improve upon things that are not perfect. When you turn a paper in to your teacher at school, she gives it back to you with all kinds of red ink. Then you grow up, and, perhaps, write something that may not be graded, but when it is edited, it is improved with a lot of red ink. It is very easy for imperfect people in our imperfect world to think that in some way they can improve upon the Word of God or upon the Son of God.
Revelation 22 reminds us that there is no need to improve the Word of God or the work of Christ. God’s Son and God’s revelation of Him are both completely sufficient. Revelation 22:18-19 gives a warning, “If any man shall add unto these things….if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophesy,” God’s judgment is upon such a person. God’s Son and God’s revelation of Him are completely sufficient, and God is completely sufficient. There is nothing you can add.
Jesus is sufficient to provide Heaven. Revelation 22:1-7 is a wonderful description of Heaven. You read about the water of life and the tree of life. It is hard to imagine. I am impressed by how many times Revelation gives us a description of Heaven based primarily on what will not be there. Revelation 22:3 says, “And there shall be no more curse.” Verse 5 says, “And there shall be no night there.” There will be no need of the sun because “the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” All of this is made possible because of the work of Christ, and it is revealed to us by the Word of God. So, Jesus is sufficient to provide Heaven.
Jesus is sufficient to fulfill God’s plan and our need. Revelation 22:16 says, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” God has given us what we need to know. Do we know everything about Heaven, the future, or eternity? No! But we don’t need to know more. We know everything we need to know, and Jesus is completely sufficient. He is everything God prophesied He would be and everything we need Him to be. He is sufficient. You cannot add to Him, and we ought not to take away from Him.
Jesus is completely sufficient to give grace right now. Verse 20 says, “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly.” John replies, “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” It is finished. The Son that God sent, the work that Christ did, and the revelation that God has given are sufficient. They are sufficient to give us grace right now. Verse 21 says, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”
This book and God’s Word end with an affirmation of Who Jesus is, what that means for us, and what we can know about it. There are a lot of things you can improve in your life, but you cannot improve the Word of God or the work of Christ. You can rest in both today.
