I Kings 2:2 I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man.

It is difficult to imagine our world without us, isn’t it? We can imagine history. We can maybe imagine the future. But how often do you actually imagine your home, your city, your state, your church without you? None of us will live on this earth forever. Few things are more inevitable than that someone will take the spot that you and I occupy right now. One of the best investments that you can make is to invest in that person, that generation, right now.
David said to Solomon in I Kings 2:2, “I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man.” Sooner than we think our daughters become ladies and our sons become men. Too often we think of them as little kids when really they are growing every day and they are growing either good or sour. That is our responsibility. We need to pass reverence of God and obedience to His ways on to our children.
David said, “I am going the way of all the earth.” In other words, every person who has ever been born eventually died. We are outnumbered. Everyone ever born eventually died. Isn’t that a cheery thought for this morning! We don’t need to wring our hands about such a thing. The Bible says in verse 10, “So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.” The Bible is talking about David going to join everyone who had preceded him. By the way, soon enough this young Solomon grew old and joined David and “all the earth.”
Verse 12 says, “Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.” We are talking about a new king in the same kingdom. Your convictions should outlive you. The only way that is going to happen is for you to take the time to invest those convictions into someone who will take your spot some day.
