Exodus 9:29b …the earth is the LORD’s.

This universe is absolutely amazing! I was recently in a museum that reminded me of the immensity and complexity of the earth. Whether you go out into infinite space or go inward down to the very atoms of our bodies, there is a cosmos both beyond us and within us, and God is the One Who created them both. Knowing the origin of the earth requires a lot of faith no matter what you believe because none of us were here to witness it, but God makes very clear that the earth is the Lord’s.
In Exodus 9, Pharaoh was seeing firsthand the ferocity and fantastic power of God on the earth as He sent plagues on Egypt. Moses told Pharaoh that both God’s sending the plagues and withdrawing the plagues were in order that he would know that the earth is the Lord’s. The earth is the Lord’s today. It belongs to God.
In Exodus 9:14 God says, “That thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.” There is no god, no power, or man-made force as powerful as the God of Heaven and earth. God says, “For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee [Pharaoh] and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.” God continues, “For this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people…?” So, God says to Pharaoh, “I am God in the earth, there is none like me in the earth. You will be cut off from the earth, and my power will be declared throughout all the earth.” So, the earth is the Lord’s.
In Exodus 3, God says, “I am…God.” He is the only God. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He is the God of Moses, and God is undiminished today. God is a God in the earth. In Exodus 3:7 God says, “I have surely seen the affliction… and have heard their cry… I know their sorrows; and I am come down to deliver them.”
When you pray to God, you are not merely praying to Heaven, you are praying to a God Who is present both here and now. We can take comfort in the fact that God is not restricted to the earth. He is the God of power in Heaven, but He is a God Who bends His ear to the earth. He hears the cry of His people every day no matter where they are.
