Isaiah 40:28 Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.

Many times we feel as if God does not make sense. We try to reconcile a loving, caring, knowledgeable, powerful God with the chaotic universe around us, and sometimes we just don’t understand. Sometimes we suspect that God does not know, does not care, or does not have the power to do anything.
Isaiah 40 reminds us that we should let God be God. Isaiah 40:25 says, “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.” That is a very probing question. Whom do you think God is like? In the following verses there is a series of questions that focuses on Who God is and what He does.
God is infinite. Verse 12 asks, “Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span?” Isaiah goes on to talk about a God Who puts the very mountain ranges in His cosmic scale and weighs them as if on a balance. God can hold the seven seas in His hand. Obviously, God is powerful. God can act.
In verses 13-14 we find that God is righteous. Verse 13 says, “Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?” God knows everything to the smallest detail about you, and no one had to inform Him about you. He knows everything. He is matchless in comprehension.
Verse 18 says, “To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?” Many people make substitutes for God. They want a god that they can understand or control. But God is unlike anyone or anything you know.
Verse 25 reminds us that God is in control. “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal?” God is far greater than I am. It is hard to reconcile a knowledgeable, loving, powerful God to a chaotic world, but the answer is that your power comes from trusting God and not from comprehending Him.
Verse 28 says, “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.” God is the everlasting Creator of the universe. God never wearies or faints, and there is no way you can comprehend all it is that He knows. Yet God knows, God cares, and God has the power to intervene in your life.
