I Corinthians 1:1-2 “Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:”

I have a habit of not answering strange phone calls. With the advent of cell phones and caller ID, you can see who is calling you before answering. Sometimes my phone rings and the screen says “unlisted”; I don’t answer that call because I do not know who “unlisted” is!

Other times, I get calls from people I do know but dread talking to them or talking at that particular time. Do you have calls, like I do, that you do not answer? We are reminded at the beginning of I Corinthians that God has your number. God doesn’t need your cell phone number; He “calls” in a different way.
It is always a great blessing when you answer God’s call. Notice with me that Paul said, “Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God . . . to them that are . . . called to be saints . . . that call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours.”

Consider God’s call of salvation. Aren’t you glad you answered when He called? Paul called the folks he wrote to “saints.” You don’t have a home in Heaven because of your own merit or because of good works. The way a person receives eternal life is answering the call of God. God’s call of salvation is in a person-His Son, Jesus Christ. When God called, I answered, and now I am assured of a home in Heaven, just like these folks in I Corinthians.

Tomorrow, we will look at a second way God calls. It is always a great blessing when you answer God’s call. Thank God today for His grace in salvation, and rest assured that when a person answers God’s call, he can have confidence and assurance about eternity.
