Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
What does it take to make you scared? What makes you afraid? Everyone has things that make you fear. Some people are afraid of failure; and ironically, others are afraid of success if that means moving out of their “comfort zone.” Being a slave in Egypt was not good, but at least the children of Israel knew what would happen the next day-and the day after, and the day after that. Coming out of Egypt was a little scary, and such was the case when God was sending the exiles back to their home country.
What God does is another reason not to fear.
He promises to strengthen, help, and uphold by His right hand. In human terms, your right hand might be your strong (versus weak) hand, but God does not have a weak hand. The Bible emphasizes that God will strengthen, help, and uphold you with the maximum amount of strength available. The entire chapter is based on what God would do. The children of Israel had no idea what could or would happen. Powerful men like Nebuchadnezzar, Pharaoh, and Cyrus had power only because God had given it to them. They were no match for God, and He promised Israel that He would take care of them.
Fear came with slavery and with the freedom they had not known. You can know who God is, what He does and will do. I don’t know what you are afraid of this morning-maybe a 10-year-old child or a 10-year-old problem-but we need not fear because God looks into the future and takes care of the present. God’s character has not changed, and you can trust Him today.
