Psalm 103:22 “Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.”

Psalm 103 begins and ends with the same words: “Bless the LORD, O my soul.” There are many interesting points to be made in the twenty-two verses, such as how to bless the Lord (“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me. . . .”) and why to bless the Lord (“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”). However, the last three verses caught my attention because they remind us who should bless the Lord. This psalm is for us–we are the ones who need it!

Verse 20 says, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels. . . .” Do you think God’s angels bless and adore Him? We would certainly think so. Notice also in verse 20 that the angels “excel in strength. . . .” Wouldn’t it be fascinating to have all the super-human abilities that angels have, whatever abilities they are? But if I did have super-human strength and the ability to fly around camp, it would be hard to not get a big head! If you had all that power, do you think you would bless the Lord? When it comes to God’s angels blessing Him, don’t worry–they will!

Verse 22 says, “Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion. . . .” If those who should have praised God did not, the very rocks would cry out (Luke 19:40). God’s creation does bless Him. Anyone with an open mind knows that there must be a Creator. You can’t help but notice that God’s creation is always on time and in balance. When it comes to God’s creation blessing Him, don’t worry–it will!

The psalm ends with the words “bless the LORD, O my soul.” You are the one who has been forgiven, not the angels. You are the one to whom God provides, not just His creation. The angels will bless Him. Creation will bless Him. The question is, will you bless the Lord?

“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”
