Lamentations 3:40 – Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.
Probably the most popular commercial that is on television right now is the State Farm Insurance “Discount Double Check.” An odd-looking guy keeps annoying Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers by yelling his name and saying, “Discount double check!!” This quirky promotion by State Farm encourages you to let them take a look at your current insurance rates with the hopes of finding ways to save you money.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like that annoying “discount double check” guy in the commercial. As the Camp Director here at the Ranch, I have the privilege of working with several different people every day who have a variety of talents and abilities. One of my responsibilities is to make sure that every project done by Camp Staff gets done to the best of our ability. So oftentimes when I’m talking to a staff member, I’ll say something like “Did you get this proofed?” or “Can you run the numbers on this one more time?” Few people in this world enjoy having their projects “double checked” because they fear the process will slow the project down. But then they quickly see its importance when they find the error or the missed savings.
Here in Lamentations 3:40, I see a spiritual “double check.” Oftentimes, we get so busy with life that we feel like we don’t have time to slow down, get in God’s Word, and evaluate how we are doing spiritually. Let’s have a “discount double check” moment every day and ask God how we are doing spiritually. We will soon find errors or missed “savings” that will be worth the time invested.
