Psalm 119:90 “Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.”

God’s faithfulness is to all generations. That includes Grandpa, Dad, and Junior. For example, if a farmer plants a seed, he is going to get a crop. That was true one hundred years ago, and that is true today. What worked for your grandfather in farming still works today!

Planting a seed and getting a crop is true as a farmer, and it is true as a father. If a farmer can know that the same seed planted a hundred years ago will produce the same crop today; then a father can plant the same Word today and know that it will produce the same results it produced a hundred years ago. The Bible says in verse 89, “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”

As Psalm 24:1 reminds us, “The earth is the LORD’s , and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” We are His servants, the earth upon which we live is His, and God’s faithfulness endures. That is a wonderful thing to know! Technology has changed in the past one hundred years, but you can expect–you can “take it to the bank”–that you will reap what you sow.

We have a neighbor about five miles from the Ranch who is living on the same land his great-grandfather settled over one hundred years ago. My great-great-grandfather was a homesteader in South Dakota. In the 1800s, if a man planted corn, he could know with certainty that when harvest time came, he would reap corn–every time. The world may be different now, and the technology farmers use may be different now, but one thing has not changed–God’s law of sowing and reaping.

This world will one day “melt with fervent heat” (2 Peter 3:10), but there is one thing that will outlast this life and this earth–God’s Word. It will do so because it is not established merely on earth-it is established (“settled”) in heaven. The best example of God’s faithfulness to every generation is His Word. If God’s Word is planted in the human heart, it will still produce results now as ever it did-because God is faithful. That is an encouragement to me, as a father, because I can train my kids the Bible way and know that it will work!

Today, men are still planting in the same ground and getting the same results. If I can plant today with assurance, shouldn’t I have at least the same measure of certainty about the reliability of God’s Word? If God is faithful to a farmer, He will be faithful to a father. God’s faithfulness is to all generations, and His Word is still true, needed, and powerful as it ever was!

“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.”
