Deuteronomy 31:3 The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.

God Knows Your Future

If I were to ask you your three chief fears right now, I’m quite certain that those fears would have something in common. They probably are all something related to something in the future. Perhaps no fear is greater than the fear of an unknown future.

Israel was about to go into a new land with a new leader. Moses had died, and Joshua would be the new leader. His leadership had been somewhat untested. He had learned from Moses, and I suppose he had learned much over a long period of time. However, it was all new. So there was great reason for anxiety on Joshua’s part and on the part of the people who were to follow him.

In Deuteronomy 31 we get a little bit of perspective on this. Moses told Israel that they were going into this land without him. God had told Moses that Moses would not be leading Israel over the Jordan.

But notice Who would be going with Israel.  Verse 3 says, “The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them; and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.” On numerous occasions, Israel seemed to think that Moses was the sum and substance of their joys and sorrows, but they were forgetting that it was God who brought them out of Egypt, provided food from Heaven, and against Whom they complained.

The point is that Moses would not be going with Israel, but God would be. I don’t know what you’re future holds or what your past might say, but I do know that the Lord Who guides you is greater than any leader in your past and any challenge in your future. If God guides you, you don’t need to know the future because He owns the future and stands there waiting for you today.
