Deuteronomy 10:1 At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood.

God Will Accomplish His Purpose

Maybe you’ve noticed that the world just seems to be broken. People are beside themselves and don’t know what to do. It’s a lot like the people of God as they came out of Egypt headed towards the Promised Land. They were in trouble. They were broken. Deuteronomy 9 tells us that they had provoked God to wrath in the wilderness, in Horeb, and in Kadesh-barnea. They had done wrong over and again. Moses had been so provoked that he took the stone tablets upon which the Ten Commandments had been engraved and threw them down, breaking them.

What was God’s response to the broken commandments? God simply said, “Write them again.” Sometimes we wring out hands and think, “What are we going to do? What is God going to do about this world, my life, and the problems?” God is not worried or wringing His hands. God will accomplish His purpose.

Psalm 119:89 tells us, “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” Throughout history people have tried to destroy God’s Word. You may break God’s commands, but you are really just breaking yourself against them because God’s Word stands. It is in Heaven. If all the copies of God’s Word were destroyed today, God would speak from Heaven and give it again tomorrow. You say, “That would never happen.” I agree, but if we grant that all the copies of God’s Word could be destroyed, I will tell you that God would speak them again from Heaven. Why? It is because God will accomplish His purpose.

Let me give you another example of this in a different form, not written communication through a tablet, but God’s truth through a person. Deuteronomy 10: 6 tells us, “And the children of Israel took their journey… there Aaron died…and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest’s office in his stead.” Once again the question is, “What will we do? The priest we’ve always known is gone.” For most Israelites, the high priest was not just a position, it was a person. The only one they’d ever known to execute this office was Aaron, and he was gone. What was the answer? It was to have his son minister in his stead.

When it came to the broken tablets, God said, “Make some like the first.” When it came to the death of Aaron, God said, “Have his son minister in his stead.” God’s power exceeds every generation and every vessel whether it is a stone tablet or a man’s mouth. God’s truth is untouchable, unchangeable, and something upon which you can base your life. The world may seem to be broken, but there is a God in Heaven Who is in control, Who is good, and Who will accomplish His purpose.
