Daniel 2:27-28 “Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets. . . .”

Today you will face decisions, small and large. Each time you face a decision, you make a choice either based on what you can do or on what you should do. Are you ready for this? You should not do everything you can do—but you can do everything that you should do.

King Nebuchadnezzar was determined to find out the meaning of a disturbing dream he had dreamed the night before. The king required his own wise men to tell him both the dream and the interpretation. He figured if they could not tell the past, how could they predict the future? The wise men actually got one right when they said in verse 10, “There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter. . . .” That was the truth! No man was capable of doing such a thing.

Daniel had no more ability to tell and interpret the dream than the wise men did—but he had a God in heaven that could! I love what Daniel says in verse 28, “But there is a God in heaven. . . .” Never say, “I can’t!” when it is something that you should do. You can do everything that you should do.

Daniel shows us a good pattern for what we should do when faced with a difficult decision. He first went to his house and told his companions so that they could pray with him about the matter. Godly friends can be of great help to us during a time of decision by joining us in asking God for help.

Moreover, Daniel made it known to God. Before deciding that he could not, Daniel went to God for the answer. In the following verses God gives Daniel both the dream and the interpretation. This was something God wanted Daniel to do, so He gave him the ability to do it.

In every decision we make, the question to ask ourselves is not “Can I?” but “Should I?” We can do everything that we should do—God will take care of the “how.” God did amazing things through Daniel—things that he never would have dreamed possible!

There is no telling what God will do through us if we are willing to make all of our decisions based upon what we should do and not what we can do!
