Hebrews 9:12  “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”

In a recent service in South Florida, a man indicated his need of salvation and spoke with me after the service about his need.  He said, “Well, there are many interpretations of the Bible.  You say one thing, and this denomination says another thing, and another religion says something different.”  He was confused by denominational doctrines and interpretations of Scripture.

That day, I took my friend to Hebrews 7:27, where the Bible says Christ “needeth not daily . . . to offer up sacrifice . . . for this he did once, when he offered up himself.” If that were not clear enough, I took him to Hebrews 9:12 which says the same truth: “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” You cannot escape the fact that Christ made His sacrifice once-a one-time event that has eternal consequences!

There is a difference between permanent and eternal.  We have permanent ink and permanent press, but even the things we consider “permanent” are not eternal.  To us, something has always been a certain way, but our focus is so narrow!  Even life itself is not guaranteed or permanent; verse 27 reminds us that “as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” We are guaranteed a one-time appointment with death (verse 27); but what Christ did for us, He did one time and it carries eternal significance.

Christ is the one way to God’s one Heaven, and His sacrifice was made one time.  Even my friend in South Florida could not dispute what the Bible clearly says!  Great faith is not a matter of how much faith; it is a matter of Who the faith is in! If you have placed your trust in God’s only Son as the only way to Heaven, you can live confidently and securely today in God’s salvation.  A man may have great faith and be trusting in many religious things or people to get him to Heaven, but if his faith is not in the right Person, he is sailing on a sinking ship!

“For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”(Hebrews 10:14)
