Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Perfect Peace and Everlasting Strength

You and I are living in the noisiest world in human history. We don’t even notice much of that noise. It is just part of the natural rhythm of our lives. For those living in large cities, the noise is more pronounced, but even those of us who live in rural areas encounter more noise than people would have encountered in, say, 1840.

As I was thinking about this over a period of several minutes just this morning, two jets flew right over the Ranch. I was also aware of the noise of traffic on Highway 96. I could hear the PA system here at the Ranch. I could hear the motors of various vehicles.

The only noise you would have heard in 1840 would have been the voices of the creatures around you and perhaps the noise of people using manual tools. The point is that there is a lot of noise. Noise is everywhere, yet the truth is that noise is really a matter of the mind. You could be in the quietest place on earth and have a busy, noisy, overwrought mind.

Peace is a mind matter. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” We often put peace and quiet together, but the Bible here is talking about a supernatural peace. It is talking about a peace of mind. It is talking about a perfect peace. You can live way out in the country and still have a very distracted, busy, worried, hurried mind.

Perfect peace and everlasting strength go hand in hand. Verse 4 says, “Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.” I am to stay my mind on the God Who gives everlasting strength, Who gives perfect peace. My trust of God is to last as long as His dependability, and that would be forever.

Stay your mind on the unchanging, everlasting God. Philippians 4 tells us that the “peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” As our text says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace.” Our mind is guarded when we keep it, stay it, and focus it on the unchanging God. Perfect peace and everlasting strength go hand in hand. When your focus is on a God Who never changes you can have a quiet heart.
