Psalm 33:5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

Recognize the Goodness of God

I observe a stark contrast in life in the first hours of every morning I awake. I look at the news first thing every morning and see destruction and wickedness there. In contrast, I walk around a little while later before I begin my day, and it is serene. I often see turkey or deer, and dozens of birds are in full chorus. What a contrast between the world that God has made and what men have made of it!

Psalm 33 is a good psalm to put things back into perspective because it reminds us that we have cause to rejoice. The Bible says, “Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.” It is fitting for God’s people to rejoice in Him. We should recognize the goodness of God everywhere we look!

Look back at creation. Verse 6 says, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” God spoke that into existence. Verse 7 says, “He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.”

God is powerful. Verse 9, “For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.”

God is just. Verse 10 says, “The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought.”

God sees everything. Verses 13-15 say, “The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. He fashioned their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.”

God helps and delivers us. Verse 16 says, “There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.”

When you look around the world today, you see the mess that men have made, but you can remember there is a God Who has created this world in magnificence and Who will restore it in due time. In the meantime, you can wait, rejoice, trust, and hope because it is fitting for God’s people to recognize the goodness of the Lord literally everywhere they look.
