Psalm 116:1 “I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplica-tions.”

See What He Said

Sometimes we have the idea that we should praise God for Who He is, not for what He has done. Is it being selfish to praise God for what He has done for you? Well, the psalmist knew that God was gracious because he had seen God’s grace firsthand!

Should you love God because of Who He is? Of course you should! However, you should know God because of what He has done for you personally. Praising God for what He has doesn’t cut down your reverence for Him; it should heighten it. You can know God is gracious because the Bible says so, but you ought know God is gracious because you experienced it yesterday. They both go hand-in-hand!

There should be a connection between what God has said and what you see God doing in your life. How do you know that God is gracious? First, because God said it; secondly, because you have seen it yourself! Nothing you say about God will ever be as forceful as what God has done for you. Will you see what He has said today?
