John 3:27 “John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.”

Shareholder or Steward?

Are you sharing or stewarding what is Christ’s? John’s disciples came to him in John chapter 3 and mentioned that the Lord Jesus was in the same area, doing the same thing as John (baptizing). Not only were they sharing space and sharing work, now they were sharing converts! “Behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.” In their minds, they were sharing with the Lord Jesus, but John had a different answer.

John didn’t see himself as sharing Christ’s work; he saw himself as a steward. He said to his disciples, “A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” That, my friend, is a different perspective than sharing!

If you see yourself as a shareholder in God’s work, you will look at what other people, ministries, and churches are doing and think, “This is not fair.” You might even think that others are not doing their “fair share.” When you share something, you instinctively look at what others have or do compared to what you have or do.

However, you do not share 50% of what is Christ’s; you steward 100% of what He has given you. You can’t do better than what God gives you. You are a steward of His resources, so it becomes mightily important what you do with it! You are not accountable for what you do not have; you will be accountable for what you do have. Are you sharing or are you stewarding what is Christ’s today?
