Luke 7:19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? Or look we for another?

The Answer is Jesus

Sometimes, if it’s not one thing, it’s another. The devil has more than one way to fight against you and against God. The good news is that Jesus is unlimited in the ways He can help you. There are two things which can be used to harm your effectiveness in serving the Lord Jesus. One is doubt, and the other is pride. We tend to think that doubt would be on one end of the scale and that pride would be on the other.

John the Baptist is a good example of a man who would have faced both. But he knew what to do when he faced these problems. The answer to pride is not doubt, and the answer to doubt is not pride. The answer to both is Jesus.

John 7:19 says, “And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?” Why did John doubt? Well, John was in prison at that time for doing what was right and doing what the Lord Jesus would have him to do, so he had a question.

The wonderful thing is that Jesus is both the answer to doubt and to pride. Sometimes bold people can doubt and timid people can be proud. We don’t always know who needs what or what we ourselves need, but Jesus does.

John was bold and confident, yet there doesn’t seem to be any pride in him, although I am sure he battled it. You would expect John to battle pride, but you would expect John to battle doubt, which is exactly what actually plagued him. But when John doubted, he knew just Who to ask.

Jesus does not begrudge the question of any submissive heart. He is up to your questions and your doubt. John knew Who to ask, and Jesus knew what to say. Jesus is the answer.
