Isaiah 40:27-28  “Why sayest thous, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.”

Is your way hid from God today? You may be far away from home or working in a remote location, but your way is not hid from God. He knows you. There is no way to know all of what God understands about you. The entire fortieth chapter of Isaiah is a testimony of just how powerful God is.

God’s power is way beyond our comprehension. He is the cosmic Ruler-as verse 12 says, “Who hath measured the waters . . . and meted out heaven . . . and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?” Only God could take something like the Rocky Mountains and weigh it in His scale! Well then, can’t God take care of your problems today?

God’s knowledge surpasses our knowledge. How much does God know? Verse 14 rhetorically asks the identity of God’s informant. It is true that God knows everything-even about your day-but is there someone “squealing” on you? God knows everything and exists on His own. Most powerful men you know are NOTHING to God. The second a man begins to think he is fine on his own, he is in trouble. No one, no thing, no problem is anywhere near equal to God. He is the all-powerful, capable God of Heaven.

Not only is God capable, but He cares. He knows you and what you need. Do you have the strength you need for today? God promises to give “power to the faint” and “increaseth strength” (verse 29), but you won’t ask God for it if you think you are capable.

Everyone has his limits (verse 30), but the wonderful promise from God is that He will “renew”-or exchange-His strength for your weakness if you wait on Him. Waiting on God means trusting God when you do not know how He will provide. A man may trust God for a need but wait on his rich uncle to share the wealth; but a man who waits on God will trust Him even if he is flat broke and his relatives are too!

The encouragement from Isaiah 40 is that God has more than enough to provide every need. We do not have what we need today, but we can ask-and that is exactly the conclusion from Isaiah 40:

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
