The Lord Leads

Do you wish you had better leaders in your life? Do you wish you were a better leader? You are probably honest enough to wish that you were better. Psalm 72 is a psalm “for Solomon,” yet neither Solomon nor his son were the kind of leader we read about in this psalm. Only the Messiah, the Lord Jesus, could lead as the psalm indicates.

Psalm 72:1-2 says, “Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son. He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.” Notice the possessive pronouns. They are all “thy.” None of them are “my.” The reason for that is that only the Lord Jesus can lead as the Lord Jesus would lead.

Sometimes, I don’t even want to do the right thing let alone do I have the power to do the right thing, but the Lord Jesus has both the will and the ability to do what is right. Whether you are a mother, a pastor, a coach, a teacher, or a manager, remember that what you have belongs to God and what you need is provided by God. That is why we need His grace and resources to serve His people. That is why He is to be blessed when we have His resources.

Let me urge you to listen to the possessive pronouns you use. Are they “my, my, my,” or are they “thy, thy, thy”? When God owns you and all that you have, you can trust Him for all that you need because only the Lord Jesus can do and would do what the Lord Jesus is able to do. Only Jesus can lead as He would lead. Allow Him to lead you first, and if you will, then you will have the grace to lead others.
