Matthew 20:30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.

Do you know anyone who does not have a lick of sense? They don’t have any common sense or even make sense. Perhaps you like them as a good person, but they just don’t have any sense. All of us know people like this.
Do you know any people who don’t have any sense when they lick? Perhaps they are licking an ice cream without any sense of taste. The word “sense” in the sense that you have accurate perception and the word “sense” in the sense that you have senses, like taste, smell, and hearing, are connected. Both have to do with perception.
In Matthew 20:30 we find some people who had sense even when they were lacking a sense. They were born blind, but they used the sense that God had given them. The Bible says, “And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus past by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.” These were men who did not have perception through their eyes, but they used the perception they had. They heard that Jesus passed by.
There are a few lessons here for us today. These men had perception. They recognized their need and they had a heart for the Lord Jesus. So, use the sense that you have. Maybe you are not as brilliant as you want to be, but use the sense you have. Could those two men see? No. Could they hear? Yes, and that was sufficient. They had the good sense in their mind to acknowledge the Messiah.
Second, ask for what you need. These blind men needed a lot, and they said, “Have mercy on us, O Lord.” Now mercy is what everyone needs. You don’t have to be blind to need mercy. Everyone needs mercy. Nothing God gives you is because of merit on your part but because of mercy on His part. So, mercy is for everyone.
Notice what Jesus did. After standing still and taking time with them even in this big crowd, he asked them, “What will ye that I shall do unto you?” Wasn’t it obvious? Didn’t they already ask for mercy? They asked for mercy, but what kind of mercy did they need? What kind do you need? God would have us ask specifically. Sometimes I don’t even know what I need. So, you need to pray, asking, depending, and acknowledging with perception Who Jesus is.
Third, don’t forget. Jesus had compassion on them as He does with all of us. He “touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.” Here are two blind men who were sitting, but are now following. Here are two blind men who could see nothing, but now could see everything. Here are two blind men who used the sense they had, asked for what they needed, and didn’t forget the One Who gave them what they asked.
Today, you may not have the smarts or perception that you wish, but use the good sense God has given you. Ask for what you need specifically, and don’t forget that when God acts in mercy we should follow Him.
