Do you care what others are saying about you on social media? Have you ever been maligned? Are you ever flattered?

The other day I received a startling message on Twitter: “a user is posting cruel things about you here…” What followed was the hook in the bait, a web address to click. It turns out that my friend had been hacked, and the message was a hoax.

The next day, I received another message that I had been “endorsed” on another social media outlet. Of course, I am grateful if the “endorsement” is authentic. However, it seems to me that if I am looking to social media for affirmation, then I can expect a roller coaster ride!

That is because both positive and negative statements about me tend to appeal to my vanity. If I am seeking to build a following, I will be focused on myself, and that is a tedious way to live. If I am seeking to build the people who are following, I am living for others. That would be living like Christ.
