Mark 6:6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Who Jesus Is

In what area of your life do you find it most difficult to exercise faith? About what do you find it most difficult to trust Him? What is unbelief and where does it come from?

The Bible tells us about the Lord Jesus teaching in the synagogue back in His home country. The response of those who had grown up in the same area was, “From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands.” They marveled at His words and they marveled at His works.

They were puzzled about what Jesus could do because they were confused about Who He was. In verse 3 they say, “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.” Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.”

We know these people’s problem was unbelief, but what did these people not believe? Did they not believe what Jesus could do? No, they saw what He could do and were puzzled by it. Their unbelief was because they didn’t accept Who Jesus was. When you accept who Jesus is, accepting what He can do is not such a problem.

The first question to ask yourself is, “Does He have the right?” Secondly, you ask, “Does He have the power?” These people saw that He did have the power. The problem was it didn’t make sense to them because they didn’t think that He had the right.

So many times we have difficulty with what Jesus is doing in our lives because we don’t think He has the right, and we have trouble trusting Him with those issues because we don’t think He has the power. All those things come back to a question about acknowledging Who Jesus is.

When you pray today, consider not just asking the Lord to answer a prayer, but affirming that you know He can. Affirm His character, His eternality, and His power. God is good and will do what is right, but our faith is increased about what Jesus can do when we reaffirm our faith about Who Jesus is.
