Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

If you are on Facebook, it is probably to keep up with people, and it may well be that Facebook is the way you find people that you have not seen for some time. Maybe it is an old high school classmate, someone with whom you went to college, or someone with whom you worked. I’m always shocked at how old the people are with whom I should be “pal-ing” around. I don’t realize my age. Sometimes we feel like we have lost people. They look, think, or act differently than they did. Maybe their hair has changed and their ideas have changed. It is a little unsettling when you find such a person.
God doesn’t change. Malachi’s message to God’s people was that God doesn’t move and God doesn’t change. They had said, “Where is the God of judgment? Where is God?” The idea was that God would neither judge bad nor do good. Maybe you feel today as if God has moved. You wonder where God is. He is neither judging your sin nor protecting your right. Perhaps that is the way you feel.
It is important to realize that the truth is beyond our feelings. It is larger than our feelings. The answer is in Malachi 3:6, “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” The word “LORD” means “the eternally-existent, self-existent Creator of the universe.” That God does not change. Why was Jacob not consumed even after sin? It was precisely because God doesn’t change. The same God Who chastens His own judges the wicked. There is a difference between defending my home from an intruder and disciplining my child. Neither is pleasant, but both are because of my love for my child, not because of my hatred for my child.
In verse 7 God says, “Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.” That is a New Testament principle. In other words, God can’t return to me because God hasn’t moved. I must return to Him, and when I do, God will return to me. I have to change. God doesn’t move or change.
As we are living in a very rapidly changing world, we need stability, something that doesn’t change. In our human minds that are subject to time and space, the best way to create that sense of stability is to talk about old-fashioned and old-time, the old-fashioned church and the old-fashioned Book. I don’t begrudge that, but it is important for us to remember that the Bible is not old, it is ancient; it is not ancient, it is timeless. God is already ahead of us. Even in the Old Testament we have prophetic utterances that are yet to be fulfilled. My point is that God is always ahead of us. God is not old fashioned or new-fangled. God is timeless and God is ahead of you.
In short, you can always know where to find God because God hasn’t moved. God is unchanging. God is right. God will not surprise you by looking or being different than He is. So, how do you know where God is? You know where God is by knowing Who God is. And you know Who God is by knowing what God has said in His Word. Your feelings change all the time, but what God has said does not. God’s truth is sufficient for every trial and question coming your way.
